The Impact of Biophilic Design on Sustainable Architecture and Human Well-Being
3 viewsAbstract
Biophilic design has become an important approach in contemporary architecture by strengthening the connection between humans and nature within the built environment. This study examines the role of biophilic design in promoting sustainability, improving occupants' well-being, and enhancing building performance. A qualitative research methodology based on a comprehensive literature review was employed to analyze academic journal articles, books, and architectural case studies. The findings indicate that incorporating natural light, vegetation, water features, natural materials, and visual connections to nature improves indoor environmental quality, reduces energy consumption, and positively influences physical and psychological health. Furthermore, emerging technologies such as Building Information Modeling (BIM), green building certification systems, and smart environmental controls have facilitated the integration of biophilic principles into modern architecture. Although challenges remain regarding implementation costs and urban constraints, biophilic design continues to provide effective solutions for creating healthier, more sustainable, and resilient built environments
