The banking industry and credit risk assessment in particular are rapidly evolving through the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The conventional credit assessment models are predominantly based on fixed financial metrics, credit history, and manual examination. Nevertheless, the approaches may occasionally result in incorrect loan issuance decisions and higher risk to banks. This article discusses the benefits of AI-based credit risk assessment systems in enhancing loan approval decisions. Large and complex datasets, such as financial behavior, transaction history, and other alternative data sources can be analyzed using AI technologies, especially machine learning algorithms. This enables banks to estimate borrowers better and minimize the risk of default. In comparison to the traditional models, AI systems have the ability to learn and adjust to new data trends continuously, which makes them more effective when it comes to detecting high-risk borrowers. Nevertheless, in addition to these benefits, AI also comes with such threats as data bias, a lack of transparency, and reliance on the quality of data. This paper draws a comparison between the conventional credit risk evaluation tools and AI-based applications and compares the effectiveness of the two in enhancing the accuracy of loans. The results indicate that AI can contribute to a substantial improvement in the accuracy of predictions and risk detection, although human control will be a crucial aspect of the financial decision-making process. In general, AI is an effective tool that enhances credit risk analysis, although it must be transformed into a supplementary system to the conventional banking practices.
